Mitchell City Council Considers Resolution Authorizing Demolition of Bulletin Board – Mitchell Republic

MITCHELL — A resolution will be considered by the Mitchell City Council Monday that would allow the city to demolish a longtime bar and restaurant on Main Street.

The resolution would allow the city to demolish the Scoreboard Pub and Grille building, located at 522 N. Main St.

After the city acquired the property at 522 N. Main St. in 2022 through a real estate exchange with the business owners of Scoreboard, city leaders said the goal behind the Scoreboard acquisition was a future expansion of the Corn Palace Plaza.

According to the memo to the council from City Attorney Justin Johnson, it is unclear whether the city still plans to use the soon-to-be vacant land next to the Corn Palace to create additional plaza space. The memo states that removing the building would “facilitate future development.”

The resolution the council will consider does not mention future expansion plans for the Corn Palace Plaza.

While the long-standing restaurant and bar that has been a local staple for decades is soon to come to an end, a new rooftop restaurant and bar will soon open just yards from the Scoreboard.

The Scoreboard’s neighboring building, located at 514 N. Main St., has been renovated to become a rooftop bar and restaurant. Jason and Jen Bradley, who ran Scoreboard, announced that their new location, Bradley’s Pub and Grille, will open on September 19.

Working session Before the regular meeting scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m., the council will meet at 5 p.m. for a working session.

The work session focuses on the city’s 2025 budget. Uncertainty surrounding the proposed statewide grocery tax repeal, which is on the November election ballot, has already presented challenges for city leaders ahead of the budget work sessions.
