Uglies: Dystopian drama is the best movie on Netflix

“Uglies” is currently the most popular movie on Netflix, according to the platform’s public rating system.

This sci-fi drama is an adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s 2005 dystopian young adult novel about a teenage girl living in a post-apocalyptic society where plastic surgery is mandatory. Joey King stars alongside Chase Stokes, Laverne Cox, Keith Powers and Brianne Tju.

“Uglies” first aired on September 13 to mostly negative reviews, and it is unclear whether subsequent novels in the series will be adapted into sequels.

Another dystopian movie is trending on Max. The 2024 thriller “Civil War” is the most popular film on the platform right now.

Written and directed by Alex Garland, the film follows a group of war journalists who attempt to travel from New York City to Washington, D.C., in the midst of a rebel uprising against a dictatorial U.S. federal government. The cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Nick Offerman, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Sonoya Mizuno.

Another dystopian film makes Hulu’s current list of most popular movies on the platform.

“Boy Kills World” is an action comedy starring Bill Skarsgård as a young man seeking revenge against those who killed his family. The cast also includes Michelle Dockery, Jessica Rothe, Brett Gelman, Isaiah Mustafa, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Sharlto Copley and Famke Janssen.

“The Fall Guy” is currently trending on Peacock. Loosely based on a 1980s TV series, the action comedy follows a stunt double who becomes embroiled in a criminal conspiracy while working on a film.

“The Fall Guy,” which hits theaters May 3, stars Emily Blunt, Ryan Gosling, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, Stephanie Hsu and Winston Duke.

Written and directed by Krasinski, “IF” is a fantasy film about a young girl who develops the ability to see the childhood imaginary friends of the people she left behind as she grew up. The cast includes Ryan Reynolds, Cailey Fleming, Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. and Steve Carell.
