Joe Brolly and Laurita Blewitt welcome first baby together

Congratulations to Laurita Blewitt and Joe Brolly who welcomed a baby girl together.

The outspoken radio host had nothing but sweet words to share as he gushed over the latest edition to the family, describing the birth of his baby girl as “as close to heaven as any human being can get.”

Their new arrival is his first child with his second wife, podcaster Laurita, whom he married in Mayo in 2022, but he also has five children from his first marriage.

While mother and daughter are thankfully doing well now, Joe revealed that their baby was born via “emergency” delivery over the weekend.

Speaking on his Free State podcast, he admitted he found the birth of their baby “very upsetting” but was overcome with a sense of peace when he met his daughter.

“You can enjoy it. I’m in the middle of a trial, so I’m going back and forth. But if you sit there with the baby in your arms for three or four hours, it’s as close to heaven as a human being can get.”

“If you’re in the right situation, with the right person, it’s something that takes you out of yourself and gives you a sense of peace and joy that’s hard to communicate to someone who hasn’t had that,” the lawyer told co-host Dion Fanning.

Delving deeper into the topic of emergency labor, he continued, “At one point it got really scary and it became an emergency and they couldn’t get the baby out.

“There was a huge gathering of doctors and anesthetists in the theatre then.”

He admitted that his response to the drama was in keeping with his character, but that it had missed the mark with his other half.

“Every time I went there, it was like the first birthing scene – the musical, and me being me, the fear and all that, I made a joke that obviously went down a storm at that point.”

“It’s funny. When everything has gone well, they’re both bruised and bruised, it’s like nothing happened. We’re very good at letting go of trauma.”

Joe was determined not to cry during the show, but said he found the experience “very upsetting.” Listen to the podcast here.
