Irish crime drama Kin gets season 3 update after BBC iPlayer success

Close Star Emmett J Scanlan has shared an update on a possible third season of the Irish crime drama.

The acclaimed series launched its second season on RTÉ in Ireland in early 2023, before being available to UK viewers on BBC One and iPlayer in February 2024.

Although a third season has not yet been confirmed, CloseThe BBC’s new level of success has led to “a bit of a bidding war” in the ongoing negotiations, according to Scanlan.

In a recent appearance on This morningJimmy Kinsella actor said: “I don’t know if there will be a season three. It hasn’t been greenlit yet.

“There’s a little bit of a – I don’t know if I’m going off the rails when I say this – maybe even a bidding war.

“But there’s a lot of interest in this movie. I hope it comes back. I would love to reprise the role of Jimmy. I would love to.”

Scanlan had already said RadioTimes he “remained as positive as possible” that new episodes could be in the works.

“There are a lot of people who are interested in buying, that’s what I believe. But who that seller will be and where he will land, I have no idea,” he said.

“I try to stay as positive as possible. I love the show and I’m very proud to have been a part of it. If we come back for a third series – and I know the numbers on BBC iPlayer are incredible – I’ll be there in a heartbeat.”
