Philadelphia Mayor Announces Deal to Build 76ers Arena – NBC10 Philadelphia

Mayor Cherelle Parker announced that a deal has been reached to bring an arena for the Philadelphia 76ers to Center City.

On social media Wednesday afternoon, Parker announced that an arena would indeed be built for the Philadelphia 76ers in Center City.

“As Mayor, I rise from my office at City Hall with a very important announcement. I am proud to announce that I have made my decision and an agreement has been reached to ensure our Sixers remain home,” Parker wrote on social media.

Although she did not specify the exact terms of the deal, Parker promised it would bring “hundreds and hundreds” of jobs to Center City.

She also said the plan would bring more than $1.3 billion in private investment and mean “hundreds of millions” in new tax revenue.

“This represents an unprecedented revival of Market Street,” she said.

Parker also took a moment to address residents of the city’s Chinatown — many of whom have opposed the arena project — to say she wants the deal to help the “wealthy and vibrant” community thrive.

“I truly believe this is the right deal for the people of Philadelphia. To the people of Chinatown, know that I hear you. We have the best Chinatown in America and I am committed to working together to support it. I will have much more to say at a formal presentation coming soon,” Parker said on social media.
