Cuban rapper Ovi arrested and charged with pointing gun during road rage incident in Miami-Dade

DORAL, Florida – State troopers arrested Cuban rapper Ovi on Tuesday following a road rage incident in which he brandished a firearm the day before, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a video posted on social media, agency officials said Ovi, whose real name is Ovidio Crespo-Retureta, was located in Doral after the incident. The 28-year-old musician lives in the city.

According to an arrest report, the incident happened shortly after 12:45 p.m. Monday as the victim was driving on Southwest Eighth Street under Florida’s Turnpike in west Miami-Dade, near Florida International University.

According to FHP, Crespo-Retureta cut off another driver in his McLaren; when that driver honked, the rapper responded by pointing a gun out the window of the supercar.

Authorities said Crespo-Retureta then pulled up next to the victim and pointed the gun directly at her. They said the victim filmed the incident.

The singer then got on the Turnpike. The report says the victim recognized Crespo-Retureta and his vehicle and tagged him via Instagram.

Officers said they found Crespo-Retureta driving a Lamborghini SUV in Doral and took him into custody. They said they found a SIG Sauer handgun in his waistband and two generic Percocet pills in his vehicle.

According to the arrest report, a black Lamborghini was following Crespo-Retureta during the road rage incident.

A judge found probable cause Wednesday morning to charge him with aggravated assault with a firearm, improper display of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

As of late Wednesday morning, Crespo-Retureta was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $6,500 bail, according to jail records.
