Dubois ‘builds his energy’ as AJ promises ‘gladiatorial’ fight

By Isaac Nyamungu

London boxer Anthony Joshua has confirmed he was emotionless ahead of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight title fight, with AJ and Dubois both giving a first glimpse of their preparations ahead of Saturday’s clash during public training sessions at Wembley Stadium.

The former two-time world record holder addressed the crowd during practice at the Arena and promised a “gladiator spirit.” In a packed stadium of over 96,000 fans, AJ made the devastating promise to put Dubois down.

AJ as well as Dubois, along with other boxers involved in the Riyadh Season Card Wembley Edition undercard, were all put to their individual paces at the training event, which was open to the general public.

During training sessions, AJ happily worked alongside amateur boxers from his old club, Finchley. He showed his sense of humour in the ring. Apparently, what AJ showed was his state of mind before a key fight. He seemed relaxed, calm and confident.

“There’s no emotion. No emotion,” AJ said.

He noted that the final week of the fight for him is simply “more talking, more training, and most importantly getting in the ring in front of 96,000 people ready to show my gladiator spirit,” AJ said during practice.

“I also feel in the ring, ready for my fight. I feel good. The canvas is nice. The size is good. I just need to put on my bandages and gloves and I can fight today,” he noted.

Dubois for his part has completed his physical preparation and is preparing mentally for the fight.

“It’s all part of the pre-fight ritual. I’m just going through the motions and getting my energy up for Saturday,” Dubois said.

“I’m ready to fight, so I’m in a good position right now,” he added. “I know I have to go to another level, do my best, I’m looking forward to the challenge on Saturday,” he continued.

“I’ve been working hard in the gym. I’ve been suffering and working really hard for weeks and months, so I’m ready to fight now,” he said.
