Police search for suspect targeting women in New York

QUEENS, N.Y. — A 15-year-old boy was arrested early Wednesday in connection with an ongoing murder investigation, police said. The arrest occurred at 12:06 a.m. in the area covered by the New York Police Department’s 113th Precinct.

The teen has been charged with second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The arrest follows an extensive investigation, though details about the incident or the victim have not yet been released.

Authorities are still seeking additional information on another individual believed to be involved in the case. He is described as a male, 15 to 18 years old, with black hair, a slim build and weighing approximately 150 pounds.

Police said the individual was last seen wearing a black shirt, black pants, white sneakers and a black surgical mask. Detectives have also submitted images depicting the person they are looking for, hoping the public can help identify him.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives continue to gather evidence and leads.

QUEENS, NY — New York City police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a second suspect in the fatal shooting of Jean Pierre Rengifo-Arteaga, 23, in Queens on Friday. Authorities have released images of the man, who was last seen near the crime scene, as the investigation continues.

Officers responded to a 911 call on September 13, 2024 at 7:20 p.m., reporting an assault in progress at 33-37 96th Street in the 115th Precinct. Upon arrival, officers found Rengifo-Arteaga with gunshot wounds to the head, right forearm, and abdomen. He was transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead.

New York police have already made one arrest in the case, charging a 15-year-old with second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. However, police are now looking for a second individual believed to be involved in the incident.

The individual being sought is described as a man of medium complexion, 20 to 25 years old, with medium-length braided black hair, dark eyes and a medium build. He was last seen wearing a beige shirt, beige pants, black shoes and a black skull cap.

Police have released footage showing the suspect from the vicinity of the incident. The public is encouraged to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online. All information will be kept confidential.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional arrests have been made at this time.
