Saturday Night Live Announces First Musical Guests for Its 50th Season

Saturday night live has announced its first musical guest tour for its upcoming, historic 50th season. Billie Eilish, Chappell RoanAnd Jelly roll are all among the performers, with the latter appearing in the Jean Smart-hosted season premiere on NBC on September 28. Roan will appear in the pre-election episode on November 2, alongside host John Mulaney, and Eilish will perform on October 19 in support of host Michael Keaton.

On October 5, Coldplay will be the musical guest alongside host Nate Bargatze. Stevie Nicks will join Ariana Grandeassuming the host duties for the second time on October 12.

Jelly Roll recently made a major television appearance on Sunday, September 15, when he took on the role of the in memoriam crooner at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, performing his hit single “I Am Not Okay.” The performer originally debuted the song on The Voice in early June, and the song peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. In July, he was featured on Eminem’s track “Somebody Save Me” from the rapper’s 12th album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)The song reached the top 40.

Eilish has released her third album, Hit me hard and softin May. The album spawned two top 10 hits, “Lunch” and “Birds Of A Feather.” Eilish performed the latter at the closing ceremony of the Summer Olympics. She also collaborated with Charli XCX on the remix of her album KidThis song reached number 12 on the Hot 100.

Roan, meanwhile, has had a particularly ascendant summer, drawing huge crowds at festivals like Coachella, Gov Ball and Lollapalooza. Her song “Good Luck, Babe!” spent much of the summer in Billboard’s top 10. Roan performed at the MTV Video Music Awards last week dressed in medieval armor before winning best new artist later in the ceremony. She dedicated her award “to the queer and trans people who fuel pop, to the gay people who dedicate my songs to someone they love or hate.”
