Hong Kong asks Taoist group to explain drone show cancellation after ‘heaven’s will’ apology

Hong Kong authorities have asked the city’s largest Taoist temple to explain why it cancelled a drone show on Saturday night, much to the disappointment of many spectators.

A government spokesman said on Sunday that the Home Affairs Ministry had requested a “detailed explanation” regarding the cancellation by Sik Sik Yuen, the operator of Wong Tai Sin Temple.

The organization had planned a drone show at 8:30 p.m. at Victoria Harbor to celebrate the birthday of Master Wong, a Chinese Taoist deity to whom his followers attribute healing powers.

But the official announcement of the cancellation was not made until about an hour after the scheduled start time, with apologies and citing unstable weather conditions and signal issues affecting the drones.

An unrelated drone event at Siu Sai Wan sports ground was also cancelled on Sunday evening due to heavy rain.
