Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold just got a huge productivity upgrade

Foldable phones are at the forefront of phone design, and it looks like Google is introducing a major productivity change for the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold to take advantage of this design.

Google Meet for video calls is constantly evolving with new features, but it can be limited if there’s more than one person in a room. I’m sure we’ve all had that meeting or group call with friends where we need to huddle around a single laptop or smartphone. However, Google has introduced a new way to use Google Meet on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold that’s going to change the way we use Google Meet. Specifically, in a business setting to start, but it could eventually apply to calls between friends and family as well. Right now, this change is rolling out to everyone with a business or Google Workspace account.

According to a report from Android Authority, it will now be possible to separate the front and rear cameras and create a dual feed. This means you can seat one person on one side of a table and yourself on the other side, and both will be seen in a single call from the same device. This means we can say goodbye to awkward meetings where you have to huddle together to be seen.

There are other benefits to using Google Meet on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, particularly in terms of the phone’s camera options. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a 48MP main camera and a 10.5MP ultra-wide camera, but for our purposes, it’s the dual 10MP interior and front-facing cameras. While 10MP may not sound like much, it’ll still deliver crisp video clarity. The front-facing camera also has a wider 87-degree field of view, so there’s no need to share your interior camera with anyone, as it’s easy to capture an entire meeting room.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a lot going for it, most of which should make people want to buy one. One of the most obvious is the improved design, which is an evolution of the previous Google Pixel Fold and even holds its own against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. The only real downside we found in our review was the relatively poor performance of the Tensor G4, which underperformed compared to other chip options, including the iPhone 16’s secret weapon, the A18 chip.

The list of the best foldable phones is constantly evolving at this point, and this is arguably where most of the big hardware changes are happening, including triple-folding phones. However, it’s how the device uses those changes that really matters, and it’s good to see Google experimenting with how to make the most of the design.
