NC police video captures rescue and recovery efforts during Hurricane Helene’s Wake

A North Carolina police department has shared images of the work done by officers and community members in the aftermath of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in September.

Black Mountain Police have captured and posted online a 10-minute video showing the destruction caused by the September 24 storm. The video also showed officers working with civilians to clear debris.

‘People came from all over to help us’ Chief Steve Parker told WLOS-TV.

“I was able to call the (Charlotte-Mecklenburg) police chief there, who is my friend, and say I need help, and I need help now,” he added. “They came and saved people who had no way out.”

The video is divided into four chapters that depict the storm, its destruction, the rescue efforts and community efforts in the aftermath of the hurricane.

“(W)e wanted to talk about the recovery process and how we were moving forward,” Parker said. “And finally, we wanted to talk about where we were in the last chapter and how the communities have come together and how we’re restoring power and water.”
