The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 is coming — here are 5 reasons to be excited about Adidas' new supershoe

The long-awaited successor to the carbon-plated Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 supershoe has finally been announced, with the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 set to make its debut on elite feet at the Berlin Marathon this weekend.

The Adidas Adios Pro 4 features some significant updates over its predecessor and will sit in Adidas’ lineup as its best carbon plate running shoe for the general public, below the incredibly expensive and exclusive Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, which is primarily aimed at elite runners.

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4: price and availability

The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 will be available for purchase in January 2025 and costs $250, the same price as the Adios Pro 3. That’s considerably cheaper than Adidas’ top runner for elite runners, the Pro Evo 1, which costs $500.

I hope to test the shoe for our review before its full launch in January, but at first glance there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the Adios Pro 4.

The design is inspired by the Adios Pro Evo 1

Given the price of the Pro Evo 1 and its rarity on sale, I was hoping that the Adios Pro 4 would bring some of its design elements to a more accessible shoe for non-pro runners. The rocker on the Adios Pro 4 is positioned similarly to the Pro Evo 1, with the goal of improving your running efficiency and pushing you forward with every step, helping you maintain your pace deep into races.

It is lighter than the Adios Pro 3

The Adios Pro 4 is listed as weighing in at around 7oz for the men’s shoe and around 6oz for the women’s, which is a significant drop in weight from the Adios Pro 3. This is despite the fact that the Adios Pro 4 still has a similar stack height of 39mm in the heel and 33mm in the forefoot, and a bouncy Lightstrike Pro foam midsole with Adidas’ carbon EnergyRods running through it.

This suggests that Adidas has retained the shoe’s soft feel while significantly reducing its weight, which is always welcome in a running shoe. Most of the weight has been reduced in the upper and outsole. Speaking of that upper…

The upper part seems to be a big improvement

The upper of the Adios Pro 3 was problematic for many runners, with a rough design that sometimes caused unpleasant rubbing, especially on longer runs. The Adios Pro 4 features a new LightLock upper made from a woven mesh designed to hold the foot securely for fast running while being very lightweight, and it seems to have removed some of the features that caused irritation, particularly around the bottom of the laces.

It’s the same price as the Adios Pro 3

It’s not a cheap shoe by any stretch, but the Adios Pro 4 costs the same as the Adios Pro 3, at $250. And that’s a relief considering how much running shoes have increased in price in the two years since the Pro 3’s release, especially with high-end running shoes like the Pro Evo 1 carrying such outrageous price tags.

It comes with an exciting training partner shoe

The Adios Pro 4 may be more accessible than the Pro Evo 1, but it’s still a pricey shoe designed for serious runners who use it on race day. Another shoe launching today (September 25) is the Adidas Adizero Evo SL, which brings some design features from the Pro 4 and Pro Evo 1 to a lightweight shoe that doesn’t contain carbon EnergyRods.

It should be a fun and dynamic shoe to use for training and racing, and the Adizero Evo SL is much cheaper than Adidas’ best running shoes at $150. It will be available in limited quantities on October 15, before launching in March 2025.
