A dispute over a motorcycle turned deadly. A Pierce County man is now charged with murder

A 32-year-old man is accused of shooting two men, killing one, in Graham on Monday during a dispute over a motorcycle.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged Keith Allen Scott Canedy with two counts of second-degree murder, first-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, court records show.

Canedy was arrested Tuesday in Oregon after prosecutors sought a warrant for his arrest.

Law enforcement located his 2013 Ford F150 truck after detectives learned he was traveling south with his girlfriend, according to charging documents. Canedy was being held at the Clackamas County Jail, just south of Portland, and was awaiting extradition to Pierce County on Wednesday.

Pierce County officers were dispatched at 1:44 a.m. to the 20700 block of East 92nd Avenue for reports of a shooting. One of the victims was taken to a hospital. The other suffered a gunshot wound to the head, according to charging documents.

Officers spotted a motorcycle just south of the crime scene and attempted to stop it after being tipped off that it might be involved. The rider fled the scene and was not arrested, prosecutors wrote.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said. The victim’s identity has not been released.

The second victim, a 48-year-old man, was taken to the fire station at 187th and Meridian East before being taken to a hospital. He was seriously injured but is expected to survive, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers spoke to a witness who said she was in her RV when she heard several vehicles pull up outside. She heard arguing and then gunshots. She then saw the 36-year-old man lying on the ground. The 48-year-old man, who was wounded, said “Keith” shot the now-deceased victim in the face, prosecutors wrote.

The witness said the argument was over a motorcycle and that she saw “Keith’s” gray Chevrolet Silverado drive away. She also heard two people believed to be friends with “Keith” drive away on the motorcycle. Prosecutors wrote that Canedy was identified as the alleged shooter.

A witness said he was at home when the two victims showed up. The 36-year-old man said someone who lived down the street stole his motorcycle. As the witness was talking to the victims, a motorcycle drove into the area, documents state.

The victims drove to where the motorcycle stopped and returned shortly after. The witness heard another car pull up with a woman screaming, asking where the 48-year-old man was. When the man answered, the witness heard gunshots while he was inside his home, prosecutors wrote.

The witness saw a new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, “Bison” edition, leaving the area. The witness confirmed the truck belonged to Canedy because it was brand new and a rare edition, prosecutors wrote. He alleged the gunshots came from the truck, prosecutors wrote. The witness then took the 48-year-old man to the fire station.

Investigators spoke to the 48-year-old man who said his motorcycle had been stolen. He said he was “shot” dead, prosecutors wrote.

The stolen motorcycle was a 2024 Yamaha that was reportedly registered to Canedy. Detectives spoke to Canedy’s mother who said she kicked Canedy out of her house on Sunday. She said Canedy was the only one who wanted to drive the truck because it was so expensive, documents show.

Canedy’s mother said he recently received a large sum of money and was spending the money. He was buying things for himself or others. He had a history of giving things to people but then trying to take them back if he got angry with them, prosecutors wrote.

Canedy has prior convictions for serious crimes, including residential burglary and second-degree burglary. He is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.
