Woman tied to tree, burned alive by family members in Tripura; arrested sons | Latest news India

In a gruesome crime in west Tripura, a 62-year-old woman was tied to a tree and burnt alive by her sons and other family members on Saturday.

Police said the gruesome crime took place in Khamarbari area of ​​Champaknagar police station.

Jirania sub-divisional police officer Kamal Krishna Koloi said, “After receiving a tip-off that a woman had been set on fire, a police team rushed to the spot and found the burnt body tied to a tree. We took the body to the hospital for an autopsy.”

Authorities suspect a domestic dispute was behind the incident. This elderly woman lived with the support of her two sons after the death of her husband about a year and a half ago. One son lived with her while the other lived in Agartala, the state capital.

“We have arrested his two sons for their alleged involvement in the case. They will be produced in court on Monday, to be remanded in police custody for questioning. A family conflict could be behind the incident” , added the manager.

In April 2024, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly set ablaze in a public park in Sector 35 of Chandigarh by her boyfriend after a verbal argument over their relationship turned sour.

The victim later died from burns and blamed her boyfriend for the crime in her dying declaration. The man maintained his innocence and said the woman set herself on fire after their last meeting before the “breakup”. According to eyewitnesses, the man rushed to save her and took off his T-shirt in an attempt to put out the fire, but failed to save the woman’s life.
