Baltimore woman arrested in fatal shooting

Baltimore, Maryland — A Baltimore woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting in the city’s West District earlier this month. Authorities identified the suspect as 38-year-old Teresa Collins.

The incident occurred Sept. 22 in the 2700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, where Collins allegedly shot and killed 33-year-old Jasmine Simuel. According to investigators, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene after the shooting. No additional details regarding the motive or events leading up to the shooting have been released.

After an investigation, detectives located and apprehended Collins on September 26. She was taken to the Central Booking Center and officially charged with first degree murder. Collins is currently being held without bail as the case moves through the court system.

  • Utica man arrested for attempted assault with large stick

    UTICA, NY — On the morning of September 28, 2024, at approximately 8:25 a.m., Utica Police responded to a report of a man attempting to hit several people with a large stick in the 700 block of Court Street.

    Upon arrival, police interviewed witnesses who stated that the suspect, someone they knew, had grabbed a large stick following an argument and attempted to hit another individual. The intended victim managed to avoid being struck, but expressed fears for his safety due to the suspect’s actions.

    The suspect, identified as Nicholas Vangorder, 30, no known address, was arrested at the scene and transported to the Utica Police Department.

    As a result of the investigation, Vangorder was charged with:

    • Second degree threatening
    • Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, due to a prior conviction.

    He remains in police custody pending legal proceedings.
