Senior center temporarily evacuated after report of possible explosive device: SDSO

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A North County senior center was placed under temporary evacuation order after receiving a report of a possible explosive device on the property, officials said Monday. authorities.

The incident happened at the Gary and Mary West PACE Senior Center in San Marcos around 12:03 p.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said someone at the senior center called the sheriff’s department after receiving a call warning there might be an explosive device on the property.

Officers responded and placed the senior center under temporary evacuation order so they could search the property, SDSO said.

According to Mary Jurgensen, director of community engagement at the West PACE center, approximately 70 participants and 40 staff members were safely evacuated to the nearby church.

The incident was resolved around 1:33 p.m. and the evacuation order was lifted after deputies deemed the threat to be a false statement. No injuries were reported, according to SDSO.
