GEN Korean BBQ made its debut in Kahului this weekend, but the grand opening celebration was short-lived.

An unknown suspect was filmed breaking their windows the next morning. According to the district manager, this is the third time in September that the restaurant has been targeted.

This event has a new twist on “pigging out”

“It was a great event. Many people came out and came. But at five in the morning, I arrived at the restaurant with nine broken windows,” said Conan Paik-Rosa, GEN Korean BBQ Hawaii district manager.

He added that the suspect did not steal anything.

According to Paik-Rosa, the restaurant experienced its first attempted vandalism on September 12 while it was under construction.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when a man in a hoodie smashed the window and fled into a separate parking lot.

After Sunday’s incident, Paik-Rosa said she plans to spend more than $20,000 on additional cameras, security and more.

For the moment, nearby businesses do not appear to have been targeted.
