In Portland Public Schools, board members mull a move to zoning elections

The Portland Public Schools Board of Trustees is preparing to consider changing the way its members are elected, a significant change that could take effect as soon as next spring’s elections, in which three of its seven seats will be up for grabs .

The question is whether school board members, who serve for free, should continue to be elected district-wide or whether the board should adopt the model that Multnomah County already uses and that the City Council has implemented work this fall and elect its members by zone.
