Jonesboro announces downtown traffic plan

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – The City of Jonesboro’s slogan is “Always Moving,” and that’s what it plans to do with downtown traffic as it considers what to do then face a domed building.

Lynette Hirsch, with the city’s communications department, told K8 News on Oct. 1 that a report from a structural engineer would be released “tomorrow or later.”

City leaders closed Main Street, from Washington Avenue to Monroe Avenue, on Sept. 25 after learning that the former Citizens Bank building posed a safety problem.

To increase access to restaurants and businesses on Main Street, the city said Tuesday that motorists can now turn left from Union Street onto Monroe Avenue and then take another left onto Main Street.

Monroe Avenue will only be open to eastbound traffic.

Large trucks will have to detour via Bridge Street.
