Mark Ingram previews Kalen DeBoer’s speech, fast start against Georgia

THE Alabama Crimson Tide were able to get off to a quick start against the Georgia Bulldogsending the first quarter with a 21-0 lead. With that, head coach Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide were set up to earn their victory.

Much has been made of this fast start since the match. Clearly, Alabama came out ready, and the former Alabama running back Marc Ingram previewed that fast start and Kalen DeBoer’s pregame speech on The triple option.

“I think all of us, if you had said we were going to be up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, we all would have said, ‘Okay, whatever,'” Mark Ingram said. “But when I was in the locker room, the energy, the talk that Coach DeBoer had for those players… He just said, ‘We’re a tough group.’ We’re a physical group. Let’s go and give them hell all day and the players were like, “So, he can’t talk like that too much, you know what I’m saying.” mean? Because it was like they were ready to roll.

Alabama ended up needing every moment of its fast start to pull out the win. Georgia stormed back into the game after a 19-point fourth quarter. At one point, the Bulldogs even took the lead before a 75-yard pass to Ryan Williams helped the Crimson Tide regain the lead late. Without that hot start, this match might not have ended the same way.

“They came out and the stadium was crazy,” Ingram said. “I’m recording. I feel them again, Coach. I feel them again. I ran with the team. So, you could feel the energy in the stadium and, Coach, when you have a game like that, what’s the one thing you want to do? You want to start quickly. You want to start fast and that’s exactly what this team did.

Another key for Mark Ingram was the work done by Kalen DeBoer to develop Jalen Milroe at the quarterback. This was on full display at the start of the match.

“You talked about it. Jalen Milroe goes 11 for 11. 21 points in the first quarter. Obtain turnover figures. The team, even when behind the chains, showed Milroe his ability to improvise with his legs,” Ingram said. “His ability to chain his progressions, find his receivers, hit running backs on wheel routes. His maturation as a quarterback has been tremendous. It has been extraordinary. He follows his progress. You talked about it earlier in the season, Coach…you talked about his growth as a quarterback and his progression, and you can see it. You can see him come out one, two, three, check.

Now, Alabama will look to continue its hot start in SEC games with Vanderbilt being the next game on the Crimson Tide schedule. Certainly, a start similar to the one against Georgia will help Alabama avoid falling into the trap game.

“So what do you want to do in a match like this?” You want to start fast and that’s exactly what they did,” Ingram concluded.
