SRJC police: Gun pointed at student on Petaluma campus

The Santa Rosa Junior College District Police Department responded to a report Wednesday night of an unknown subject brandishing a firearm on the Petaluma campus, according to an SRJC alert.

A female student notified police of the incident, which reportedly happened at about 8:10 pm near the campus welcome center, 680 Mountain Parkway.

The student told police the subject was wearing black clothing and displayed a pistol, before pointing it at her from about 130 feet away. She said the person then ran away when they saw her on the phone, officials said in the alert.

The person is believed to have fled toward Leghorns Park on the Petaluma campus, officials added.

SRJC police searched the campus and the park but could not find the person, according to the alert.

The person with the gun was described as between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall with a thin build. No other descriptive details, including the person’s race or sex were known, officials said.

SRJC police are continuing to investigate the incident and ask anyone with information to contact the department at 707-527-1000.
