The Supreme Court ruled that the company must pay 400 million won to the former chairman of Pohang MBC, who was fired for being responsible for the strike.

On the 12th of last month, the Supreme Court upheld the lower court’s ruling that some of the plaintiffs won the damages suit filed by former Pohang MBC chairman Oh Jung-woo against the company.

After taking office in December 2017, former MBC president Seungho Choi fired all 16 MBC local presidents regardless of their tenure, citing responsibility for “long-term broadcast disruptions” and deterioration in management performance.

As a result, former Chairman Oh, who took office in March 2017 for a three-year term, was also removed from office by the general meeting of shareholders in March the following year.

In response, former President Oh filed a lawsuit seeking outstanding salary, claiming the termination was unfair, and the first and second lawsuits that followed ruled that some of the plaintiffs won, claiming that they could not hold former President Oh responsible for the strike.
