Delhi Police is cracking down on drug offenders with more than 140 arrests

In an unprecedented operation launched under Kavach 6.0, Delhi Police raided 874 different places across 15 districts of Delhi. This large-scale operation resulted in the arrest of 140 narcotics offenders, besides registering 139 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Additional CP Crime Sanjay Bhatia said.

About 870.1 grams of heroin, 193.8 kg of ganja, 16.1 grams of cocaine and 404 grams of MDMA have been seized by the Delhi Police, Additional CP Crime Sanjay Bhatia confirmed. Besides, Rs 34, 420 in cash, a gold chain weighing 20 grams, a motorcycle, a tempo and a scooter have also been seized.

The operation also included tackling smuggling, which resulted in the registration of 203 cases under the Delhi Excise Act. Police arrested 202 cans of beer, 29,942 cans and 198.75 liters of illegal liquor.

Besides violations of the NDPS and excise laws, fourteen suspects were arrested for arms offenses, with six country-made pistols, nine live cartridges and eight knives seized. Police also placed another 1,224 people in preventive detention for the protection of the community.

Operation Kavach was launched in Delhi in May 2023 to focus on identifying and arresting persons involved in the trafficking and distribution of narcotics. During this operation, it was decided to target both street dealers and high-ranking human traffickers and adopt both a top-to-bottom and a bottom-to-top approach to effectively combat drug trafficking.

After 2024, Delhi police have been able to arrest 961 narcotics in 695 NDPS cases. This year alone, authorities have seized a wide range of drugs, including about 65 kg of heroin, 1.9 kg of cocaine, over 2,258 kg of ganja, 102 kg of opium, 42.6 kg of charas, 73 kg of poppies and others.
