Winnipeg youth counselor accused of sexually abusing incarcerated youth: police

A Winnipeg man is facing charges after a youth reported being sexually assaulted by a youth counselor while in jail.

Winnipeg police say the youths reported the assault in November 2023.

Investigators say the boy was held in a detention center in Manitoba between 2022 and 2023.

According to the police, the boy had a relationship with a youth counselor while in custody. During that time, he allegedly gave her extra canteen items and sexually assaulted her in return.

A 51-year-old Winnipeg man was charged Tuesday with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and obtaining sexual services from a person under the age of 18.

He was released on conditions banning entry to anyone under the age of 18, as prescribed by the Criminal Code.

None of the charges have been tested in court.
