Man arrested in connection with Jefferson Street murder

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a murder on Jefferson Street that occurred on Oct. 20.

Jamel Raiquon Jones, 27, was wanted on charges of first-degree murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, wounding with intent, shooting across a roadway and discharging a firearm into a public place.

One dead and two injured in a shooting on Jefferson Street in Portsmouth

Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Jefferson St around 5:30 p.m., where they found a man shot. The man, later identified as 44-year-old Danyelle Akoya Lee, later died from his injuries.

Two other men were treated as a result of the shooting but survived, police said.

Jones is currently in custody and being held without bond.
