Paddy McGuinness once urged his ‘terrified’ ex Christine McGuinness to undergo a crucial test after her family suffered a health scare. Paddy hopes to complete his breathtaking 300-mile endurance ride on a classic helicopter today for Children in Need.

It comes two years after his split from model Christine and, in her 2021 autobiography A Beautiful Nightmare, the Real Housewives of Cheshire star opened up about a terrifying health moment that Paddy helped her through.

She told how her mother’s battle with breast cancer meant there was a “strong risk” she would also develop the disease. But the thought of a test to check if she had it left her ‘terrified’.

Christine wrote: “I need to be there for my children for as long as possible and if that meant having a double mastectomy to reduce my chances of developing cancer, I was fully prepared for that. another story. I put it off for so long because I was terrified of the consequences.

“But it was something my husband also encouraged me to do. He has a history of heart problems in his family and undergoes regular check-ups. So I reluctantly went and got tested.

“It was all very easy, a simple smear test, and the results were sent to my GP. I only told my mother after I got the results as I didn’t want to put that extra worry on her. Many weeks of fear and worry later I got the results. I was so relieved.’

The NHS says breast cancer is the most common form of the disease in women in Britain and anyone can get it. Symptoms may consist of a lump or swelling in the breast, chest or armpit.

It can also include a change in the skin or the size or shape of the breasts, as well as nipple discharge, changes in the appearance of the nipples, and pain in the breast or armpit.

The health service emphasized the importance of checking your breasts regularly to determine what is normal for you personally. Doing this will make it easier to notice any changes. Even if you are concerned, you should see your doctor. You can find more information about breast cancer on the NHS website here.
