Murder-suicide suspect told police to “shoot” his family’s heads if Trump took power

During an earlier mental health call to the house, Nephew said he feared for him and his family if Donald Trump became president

DULUTH, Minn. – New information has come to light about the murder-suicide that claimed five lives in West Duluth last week.

The suspect, Anthony Nephew, has been open about his mental health and even wrote a 2021 Community Op-Ed in the Duluth News Tribune about his journey and the need for more public support for those suffering from mental illness. In the article, Nephew wrote, “For millions of Americans, a breakdown leads to suicide – or murder before suicide.”

Three years later, his two sons, their mothers and himself are victims of this exact scenario.

More recent public records indicate there were concerns about Nephew’s mental health.

Duluth police records detail a disturbing mental health call last July, in response to the 4401 West 6th St home that Nephew shared with his wife Kathryn Ramsland and his son Oliver Nephew.

An officer responding to the call made contact with an unnamed party who was crying and saying Anthony had assaulted them. The department urged officers that Nephew should take his medication and seek help.

When officers spoke to Nephew, he was described as cooperative and said he has schizophrenia and wanted to go to the hospital.

Nephew claimed that since a recent medication change, voices told him that Trump would take over the world, and that he had to kill his family to protect them.

When officers took him to the hospital, Nephew stated he had held a knife to someone’s throat that night, but the name has been redacted from the report.

Before the officers left the hospital, Nephew also asked an officer to “come back after midnight when Trump takes over and puts a bullet in his head and his families.”

Duluth police say the investigation is still ongoing, pending the medical examiner’s report.
