A 14-year-old boy was allegedly killed by his father in Bengaluru on Friday after an argument over the boy’s mobile phone addiction and lack of interest in his studies.

The father, identified as Ravi Kumar, allegedly hit his son Tejas, a student of class 9, with a cricket bat and hit his head against a wall, resulting in serious internal injuries that led to his death.

According to police, the incident took place in Kumaraswamy Layout area of Bengaluru. The father, a carpenter by profession, was angry with his son’s academic performance and excessive use of his cell phone. The boy’s mother was reportedly home when the assault occurred.

According to one NDTV reported on the day of the crime, when Tejas asked his father to fix his cell phone. Kumar, in a fit of anger, picked up a cricket bat and started hitting Tejas with it. After hitting his son, Kumar allegedly held him by the neck and banged his head against the wall several times, reportedly telling him, “I don’t care if you live or die.”

The blow left the boy unconscious and seriously injured. Despite the severity of the situation, Tejas was not immediately taken to a hospital. He continued to writhe in pain for hours from 8 a.m. until he stopped breathing around 2 p.m. Only after he died did Kumar take him to the hospital, but doctors declared Tejas dead on arrival on November 15.

However, the incident came to light after the police were informed about the suspicious death of a schoolboy in Kumaraswamy Layout area. Upon arriving at the house, they found the teenager’s body already prepared for the last rites, while the family was busy preparing for the funeral. The police then seized the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.

The post-mortem report subsequently revealed that the boy had serious internal injuries to his head and multiple wounds to his body, indicating that he was brutally attacked before his death.

Police further revealed that Kumar had allegedly tried to cover up the crime by removing the bloodstains from the body and preparing for the last rites. He also hid the cricket bat used in the attack.

Kumar has been taken into police custody and further investigation is underway.
