Rain to interfere with India’s preparation for the Perth Test

Visitors Team India have so far trained for a week ahead of the first Test against Australia in Perth, which begins November 22. So far, many players have impressed the team management as youngsters Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana are in contention to make their debuts while Devdutt Padikkal is considered as a backup option if required. However, the unavailability of the Captain, Rohit Sharmaand Shubman Gill remains a major concern.

Amid this, India’s preparation for the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) is expected to be disrupted by rain. According to the weather report, large rain clouds are threatening Perth and it is expected to rain from November 19 to 21. In that case, the visitors will not practice for the first Test for three days in a row. There are several players in the Indian camp who are playing senior cricket in Australia for the first time and it is a concern if they are not able to practice enough before the first Test.

Meanwhile, according to AccuWeather, the opening day of the Perth Test is expected to be cloudy. India recently hosted New Zealand in such conditions in Bengaluru last month and in which they scored just 46 runs in the first innings. They struggled playing in cloudy conditions and in that case the toss will be an important affair as both teams will want to bowl first, especially as the surface in Perth heavily favors the pacers.

The rest of the days are expected to be sunny, which is better for the batters. After a 3-0 defeat at home to New Zealand, the Indian players are already taking a back seat and furthermore, some of their key players will miss the opening match of the series.
