Grinnell College student was allegedly attacked and insulted by an intrusive party guest

A 19-year-old man from Durant, Iowa, has been charged with a felony after an alleged incident at Grinnell College earlier this month left a freshman student injured.

The defendant, Noah Grage, is charged with a class D felony for assault causing serious injury. According to police and court documents, Grage is accused of assaulting Kenya Taylor, a Grinnell College student, during an on-campus party on Nov. 2. Witnesses and the victim told authorities that Grage kicked Taylor in the back, chased him and punched him. in the mouth, knocking out a tooth and breaking his lip, the complaint said.

The incident occurred at a party attended by Grage, who was the guest of a Grinnell College student, and reportedly followed a verbal altercation in which Grage used a derogatory slur, the campus newspaper reports. Grage and a friend were reportedly entered and escorted off campus by security officers.

Witnesses at the scene identified Grage as the attacker, and officers noted that his girlfriend confirmed Grage admitted to the assault, according to court documents. Investigators also obtained a short video clip showing Grage leaving the scene.

Grage was arrested on November 8 and charged the next day. He was later released on a $1,000 bond. His preliminary hearing, initially scheduled for November 19, was waived by his attorney. The case now moves to arraignment, where Grage can enter a plea.

The college is investigating the incident as a reported “biased” attack on campus, according to a statement sent to students and shared with Iowa’s News Now. “We are asking for support from the community,” the email said. “We will investigate any relevant policies and legal actions specific to this incident.”

If convicted, Grage faces up to five years in prison and fines up to $10,245.
