Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle in Nebraska City Tuesday morning

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Authorities in Otoe County are investigating after an 18-year-old from Omaha was struck and killed by a vehicle at a major highway interchange early Tuesday morning.

In a news release on social media, the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office says they were initially informed about 18-year-old Harrell Jackson Jr. from Omaha who was walking on Highway 2 near the Highway 75 interchange.

“While officers responded to the scene, the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle,” OCSO said in the news release. “Responding officers, Nebraska City Fire and Rescue arrived and attempted lifesaving measures for the pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Authorities added that Jackson Jr. was wearing dark-colored clothing while walking on the highway.

“(He) was walking in the dark, in the roadway on the Highway 2 on-ramp, when Jackson was struck by a westbound vehicle,” OCSO said.

The sheriff’s office says they are still investigating the incident.
