At least 24 people have been killed after a bus overturned in western Mexico, authorities said.

The bus had collided with a trailer that separated from a truck carrying corn, she added.

At least five other people are believed to have been injured in the incident, which happened in the early hours of Saturday as the bus left Tepic in the west. Mexico stands Nayarit.

In a video on social media, Juan Manríquez Moreno, coordinator of the National Guard in Zacatecas, explained that the truck trailer came loose on a highway before the bus collided with it, causing the vehicle to flip on its right side.

Footage shared from the crash site showed rescue teams and security forces, including military personnel, securing the area as rescuers worked to recover the bodies.
