Micah Richards was subjected to some very tongue-in-cheek, ambiguous comments from his fellow CBS Sports pundits Golazo on Tuesday night.

Richards was jokingly punished for his comments during an earlier broadcast earlier this season about France’s Stade Brestois – or Brest for short – in the Champions League.

The league debutants recorded a stunning 4-0 victory over RB Salzburg to make it two wins from two, joining Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the group stages in early October.

“It’s a big challenge,” said Thierry Henry, looking ahead to the Ligue 1 side’s next match as they welcome Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen to Stade Francis Le Ble in October – a 1-1 draw.

Only for Richards to say, “It’s a bit lopsided, I think.” That comment sent several members of the production crew into hysterics, with host Kate Scott covering her face to hide her laughter.

In response to his actions, Tuesday’s program saw Smith jokingly claim that the production team had asked Richards to remain silent while the punditry team discussed Brest’s performance in the Champions League.

“We are going to do a segment on Brest, but we have unfortunately come to the conclusion that you have consistently proven that you cannot remain professional in these segments, so production would like to ask if you are comfortable remaining silent?” Scott asked Richards.

The former England and Man City defender insists he ‘can do this’, but host Scott sarcastically repeats ‘we think this is for the best’, before Richards agrees to remain silent.

But the panel then launched into a segment full of hilarious innuendos and double entendres, deliberately designed to make Richards laugh and test his self-control.

‘Who here, after four games, likes Brest?’ Scott asks, as Henry and Jamie Carragher both raise their hands, grinning.

“I love the shape of it,” Carragher jokes as Richards almost physically hurts as he holds back his laughter. “If you look at the manager’s setup, what has he got… did he go for second tonight?”

“Yeah, two big ones uh… a couple up front going to try…” Henry adds.

Scott then continues, “And how much do you enjoy watching it – would you pay to watch it?”

Carragher then replies: ‘I did it!’ to have Richards rock back and forth in his chair and slam the desk shut as he tries to calm down.

Richards finally succumbed to the barrage of innuendos and asked,

But Henry continues mercilessly, saying, “There’s actually one thing you can say. You don’t have to be big; you can be small and compete.”

Scott continues: ‘Do you think Brest could feature tonight (against Barcelona in the Champions League)?’

And Carragher finally offers the straw that breaks the camel’s back, replying, “I hope so!”

It proves to be too much for Richards, who eventually erupts and asks, “What is this! What kind of nonsense is this! HR! Wooooow! That was hard!’

Scott wasn’t done yet, though: ‘What do you think, Micah, could Barcelona get ahead of Brest a little quick tonight?’ to which Richards makes a shocked face and refuses to answer.

Carragher jokes that it ‘might have crossed the line’, while Richards refuses to play along claiming ‘you’re trying to get me fired’ and argues for the fifth, before the discussion moves into a series of inspections of the incredible rise of the French team.

Brest were in action against Barcelona on Tuesday evening following their shock qualification for the competition, their first ever European qualification after finishing third in Ligue 1 last season.
