Philippine police said Wednesday they had filed a formal complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte and some of her security officers over a recent incident in the lower house of Congress.

The complaint alleges direct assault, disobedience and severe coercion during an incident at the House of Representatives and a hospital, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said in a statement.

Duterte, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, has been the subject of a heated congressional investigation into her spending as vice president and education secretary, repeatedly clashing with lawmakers.

“The PNP remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold justice and ensure that all individuals are held accountable under the law, regardless of their position,” said Police Chief Rommel Francisco Marbil.

The complaint is the latest setback for Duterte after an acrimonious split in her relationship with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., with whom she ran as a candidate.

Duterte is furious over the arrest at the lower house complex of her aide, who is also facing a House investigation. The aide was later shifted to a government hospital for medical attention.

On Saturday, Duterte said she has contracted a hitman to kill the president, his wife and the speaker of the Philippine House if she herself were killed, prompting a rebuke from Marcos.

Philippine law officials summoned Duterte for questioning on Tuesday over the statements. She said her words were twisted to create a false narrative that Marcos’ life was under active threat, calling her comments a “conditional act of revenge.”
