Man seriously injured in shooting in downtown Toronto, suspect arrested – CP24

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a shooting in east downtown Toronto on Sunday evening.

The incident happened in the Cabbagetown South area, near Sherbourne Street and Dundas Street East.

Toronto police said they were called to that area just before 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots heard in the area.

They said officers found a male victim with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and a vehicle fled the area.

Police initially said the two suspects, a man and a woman, had fled the area.

In a follow-up post to X, they said officers arrested one suspect after a brief foot chase. They were taken to hospital as a precaution, a media official told CTV News Toronto.

The arrest occurred after the suspect vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash near The Westway and Kipling Avenue in Etobicoke, police said.

A media official confirmed to CP24.com that no other suspects are outstanding.

Police also say that a firearm was found.

There is currently an increased police presence in the area surrounding the shooting.

Sherbourne is closed between Dundas and Gerrard streets and police are asking motorists to use alternative routes.
