Savitri Jindal, India’s richest woman, is a silent rebel and a strong political force | Female lifestyle

The rise of OP Jidal Group Chairman Savitri as a politician and business tycoon is an inspiring story. She took charge of the Jindal conglomerate after the death of her husband Om Prakash Jindal, who won the Hisar Assembly seat in Haryana thrice – in 1991, 2000 and 2005. He also served as a minister in Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s government. until his death in a helicopter crash in 2005.

Savitri also embarked on the political journey following her husband’s path and won the Hissar Assembly seat in 2005 and 2009 on Congress tickets. However, she lost the seat in 2014 to Kamal Gupta of the BJP, who retained the seat in 2019.

Born into a Marwari family in Tinsukia, Assam, Savitri was married to OP Jindal in 1970. She served as a minister in the Haryana government in 2013 and ended up parting ways with the Congress in March.

Savitri joined the BJP and campaigned for her son Naveen Jindal, who was the BJP candidate from Kurukshetra constituency in Haryana in the last Lok Sabha elections. She also campaigned for the BJP candidate in the Hisar Lok Sabha seat.

However, she was disheartened after being ignored by the state BJP leadership for Kamal Gupta for Hisar Assembly seat.

Savitry decided to go it alone and her victory by a good margin upset the bigwigs in the BJP camp. She polled 49,231 votes, while her nearest rival, Congress’s Ram Niwas Rana, managed just 30,290 votes.

According to Forbes, Savitri Jindal’s personal wealth is estimated at Rs 3.65 lakh crore, making her the richest woman in India. According to the Bloomberg Billionnaires Index as of September 8, 2024, Savitri is the fifth richest Indian with a net worth of $36.3 billion. JSW Steel, Power, Cement and Infrastructure Holdings contribute to his immense fortune.

Savitr’s leadership has been inspiring and widely recognized. She is the 50th richest person in the world and the seventh richest mother. Her philanthropic efforts and her contribution to the charitable works her husband had started earned her several accolades.

Savitri’s connection with the people of Hisar is very deep. Before the election, she stated that she had been serving the public “for 20 years” and urged the people of Hisar to give her one more chance to complete the unfinished work.
