Carpenters dump huge pile of trash on man’s doorstep

A pensioner was left shocked after carpenters left a mountain of construction waste outside his home, blocking part of his driveway. Robert Rowlands, 88, arranged for the roof tiles to be replaced at his Pentrebane home and received £6,500 from Apex Roofing Repairs Ltd, based in Cardiff.

His family told WalesOnline that work began on September 12, but instead of bringing in a skip, workers left the discarded tiles in a pile on their driveway. Rowlands’ family said they have asked the company “most days” to remove the waste and are often told it will be done the same day or the next.

But after more than three weeks the wreckage is still there. For the latest Wales news delivered to your inbox, sign up to our newsletter.

Rowlands said: “I’ve been waiting for about three weeks for this to be moved. At first I believed them, but it never came to fruition. I want to set the record straight – this is giving me an about-face.”

A family member, who did not want to be named, said: “They should have made a skip and removed it… and not dumped it in there. (Mr Rowlands) has had several falls and had three mini-strokes in the last year, he uses a walker and doesn’t go out very often. He is getting very irritable and irritable about this and we are very worried now.

A section of the driveway was blocked off and the family said they had to make their way through the debris. Another section was left clear, but Rowlands said it was too steep for him to descend. Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest news.

A spokesperson for Apex Roofing was contacted for comment. A worker confirmed over the phone that he did not use a dumpster and said he was waiting for a time for a third party to come and collect the debris. They also claimed that Apex, not the family, paved the way.
