Police reveal more sightings of missing Victoria Taylor: Mother-of-one was caught on CCTV walking towards children’s playground near river, where belongings were found

Police searching for missing mother Victoria Taylor have said there is a “significant possibility” she entered a river after recovering new CCTV footage of her walking towards a children’s playground near the water’s edge.

Chief Superintendent Fiona Willey said officers discovered previously unseen footage showing the bride walking past a children’s playground towards the river in Malton, North Yorkshire, last Monday.

Victoria’s belongings – a baseball cap and backpack – were found near the water’s edge, close to where the filming was taken, in land near Riverside Walk.

Chief Supt Willey, of North Yorkshire Police, said his offices remain open-minded and will explore all lines of inquiry, but added: “We must accept the significant possibility that Victoria entered the River Derwent.”

Divers and teams using specialized sonar equipment continue to search the river and drones are now being used to search nearby fields and forests.

Lancashire Police – who investigated the disappearance of Nicola Bulley – are also believed to be among several forces contacted by North Yorkshire Police for advice on the search.

Speaking on the banks of the Derwent, Chief Supt Willey said: ‘Today we continue to search for 34-year-old Victoria Taylor, known locally as Vixx, and is still missing from her home in the Norton area of Malton.

“I am here today to provide an update to the local community on the police response to find Victoria. But firstly, I wanted to acknowledge the unimaginable level of anguish Victoria’s family is going through following her disappearance nine days ago.

‘We have placed specialist officers to connect directly with the family to support them and keep them updated on our strategy and any developments. The family supports the police response and we are working together in our efforts to find Victoria.’

Victoria left home at 9am on Monday, September 30th.

She was seen on CCTV at 11.35am at the BP garage on Welham Road in Norton, where she purchased a number of items.

Police obtained further CCTV footage of her passing through Malton bus station at 11.53am.

Victoria is seen carrying a bag that supposedly contains items from the BP garage.

Police do not believe she entered the police station and have no reason to believe she used public transportation at that time.

Victoria was set to marry her fiancé Matthew, but they hadn't set a date as they had just returned from their first family holiday in Mallorca.

Chief Supt Willey continued: ‘In the last 24 hours we have also recovered further CCTV footage which shows Victoria walking towards the children’s playground in Riverside Walk at 12.30pm.

‘Several items belonging to Victoria were recovered from this location.

“Since we received the initial report that Victoria was missing, we have made every effort to find her.

‘Previous releases of information made by North Yorkshire Police highlight the scale of the investigations carried out to date and I would like to reiterate that, based on current information, no indication of any form of third party involvement has been established. This remains a missing person inquiry.

“As with any investigation, we are keeping an open mind and will continue to explore all lines of inquiry. Based on the discovery of Victoria’s belongings so close to the water’s edge, we must accept the significant possibility that Victoria entered the River Derwent.

‘Searches are currently taking place in the river, these searches have been above the surface and underwater. The team is using specialized sonar equipment, which gives officers a look below the surface.

«The search in the river is a slow and complex task and the team is working methodically in difficult conditions.

«The use of this specialized resource will continue in the coming days and we are greatly supported in this work by national policing advisors.

“Additional specialist police search officers are using drones to search rural areas close to where Victoria’s belongings were found.

“Over the next few days we will continue our search to find Victoria and ensure we are doing everything we can to support her family. Understandably, Victoria’s disappearance has shocked the local community and the family takes comfort in the huge amount of support from people local and further afield.’

Chief Supt Willey said there had been “a small amount of misinformation and speculation” online which she said was not helpful and was causing “unnecessary distress to Victoria’s family at this incredibly difficult time”.

She added: “Finally, we have received national advice to ensure we are doing everything we can to achieve the best possible outcome for Victoria and her family.

‘As Head of Local Policing at North Yorkshire Police, I have full confidence in our ongoing response to this search for missing people.’
