Man, 31, arrested for raping minor girl after offering lift in Mumbai

Mumbai:

A 31-year-old man was arrested by Mumbai Police for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl after offering her a lift in his car in Mahim area, an official said on Wednesday.

The girl initially alleged that she was sexually assaulted by two men who spiked the drinking water offered to her in the car. However, CCTV footage analyzed by the police showed the involvement of the sole accused who took the girl to an isolated place on the night of October 7.

The accused approached the girl after spotting her alone at the Bandra railway station. The girl was crying because her uncle didn’t pick her up, the employee said. The survivor, a native of Uttar Pradesh, lives in the Mira Road area with her uncle.

“The accused offered to leave the girl in his car to her destination. He took her to a secluded place in Mahim area and allegedly raped her on the night of October 7. The man dropped the survivor at Bandra railway station after commit the crime,” said the accused. officer said.

The passengers spotted the girl crying at the railway station and informed the police, he added.

During police interrogation, the girl revealed the incident, leading to the registration of a case of rape and the arrest of the accused in the Golibar area, in Santacruz, said the official.
