People are encouraged to keep windows closed due to the ongoing fire

Firefighters are dealing with an ongoing incident in Birkenhead. Eight fire engines are at the scene of a warehouse fire after being alerted to a blaze in Lorn Street.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the fire at 2.38am and arrived at the scene six minutes later. They are fighting a fire in a 10 x 30 meter warehouse, the fire coming from the roof.


Residents are being warned to keep their doors and windows closed while they deal with the ongoing incident. People with existing health problems are being encouraged to keep medication close by

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews were called to a fire at a warehouse in Lorn St, Birkenhead. Crews were alerted at 2:38am and on scene at 2:44am with eight fire engines and an aerial apparatus in attendance.

“Crews arrived and found a well-lit 10 x 30 meter warehouse with fire coming from the roof. The team began fighting the fire with high-pressure hose reels and the incident was divided into firefighting sectors.

“The incident is ongoing. Residents and nearby businesses should keep doors and windows closed. Those with existing health conditions should keep medication nearby and if any ill effects occur, call NHS 111.”
