Netflix fans were overjoyed on Thursday when the streamer announced that beloved drama The Diplomat had been renewed for a third season.

The series, which scored an impressive 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, has proven popular with fans and has already been revived ahead of its second season premiere on October 31.

Starring Keri Russell as US Ambassador Kate Wyler, The Diplomat follows Kate as she tries to navigate an international crisis and navigate her turbulent marriage.

Netflix confirmed: “Production is underway and will take place in London and New York.

‘The series is created by Debora Cahn, who returns for season 3 as executive producer alongside Janice Wiliams, Keri Russell and Alex Graves.

The season two synopsis reads: “A deadly explosion in the heart of London rocks the world of US Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell).

The Diplomat premiered on the streaming platform last spring and sees Keri play Kate Wyler, who has just been appointed US ambassador to the UK.

The new position was surprising, as the character was supposed to be going to Afghanistan.

The career diplomat, who is married to another well-known diplomat named Hal (Sewell), will now have to forge international alliances and prevent war from breaking out across the world. It all unfolds as she deals with her crumbling marriage.

Keri is also a producer on the series, the first in her illustrious career.
