Atlus/Sega’s absorbing Persona series has grown over the years from cult hit to bona fide box office hit, but it’s been seven years since the last installment. Meanwhile, several of its creators have branched out to form their own Studio Zero and are about to release their debut title, “Metaphor: ReFantazio,” according to an AP report.

Instead of the Tokyo-set teen drama of Persona, Metaphor presents a power struggle in a pseudo-medieval kingdom. The combat, however, evokes Persona’s fast-paced mix of turn-based and real-time action, and when you’re not fighting, you’ll need to spend time building relationships with the locals, per the report.

If you’ve been wanting to explore a new world for dozens of hours, this one launches on Friday, October 11, on PlayStation 5/4, Xbox X/S, and PC, the report says.

The survival horror masterpiece “Silent Hill 2” features some of the clumsiest combat ever put into a video game. You play as James Sunderland, a grieving widower who has received a letter supposedly written by his wife. You must make your way through a mysterious city shrouded in fog while defending yourself from the monsters that inhabit it, and you are barely up to the task. Their primary means of self-defense are a piece of steel pipe and a flimsy wooden board, both of which are difficult to wield. Getting to swing takes an inordinately long time. When you finally find a gun, you have little ammo and the aim is so delicate that you almost always miss. There’s not even much incentive to fight: defeated enemies don’t drop items or power-ups, and defeating them doesn’t give you experience points. When faced with an enemy in the 2001 game, it’s almost always better to run away.

In its remake of “Silent Hill 2,” released for PlayStation 5 and PC this week, Polish developer Bloober Team has clearly addressed this clumsiness.
