Of the moment she received her diagnosis, she adds: “I left that Zoom call, closed my laptop and sat there, still and horrified. So many emotions that I was shocked, but I also immediately felt deep sadness and disappointment – for over three decades I KNEW something was wrong. I remembered all the times I told different doctors, “I feel toxic and poisoned, or, it’s like I have the flu every day but I don’t have a fever.”

‘(It’s amazing how the body can sometimes literally tell us what’s going on.) I felt the anger rise as I was told I must have agoraphobia.

“I would try to treat it as such, when at the end of the day, it was the lack of energy and extreme sensitivity to light and sound that made my body collapse when going out for any type of activity or stimulating environment.”

Miranda says she had difficulty knowing how to share the news of her diagnosis with her followers, fearing being seen as ‘complaining’ or ‘just tired all the time’.

But Lyme disease was wreaking havoc on her body and she ended up with “endless diagnoses.” Furthermore, fans soon noticed his absence from TV screens.

WHAT IS LYME DISEASE?

Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria transmitted to humans through the bites of infected blacklegged ticks.

The most common symptoms of the disease are fever, headache, fatigue and a rash called erythema migrans.

The illness can usually be treated with oral antibiotics for several weeks.

But if left untreated, the infection can spread to joints, heart and nerve symptoms and be deadly.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE INFECTED?

During the first three to 30 days of infection, these symptoms may occur:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Rash with erythema migrans (EM)

The rash occurs in approximately 80% of infected people.

It can expand up to 30 cm (12 inches), eventually brightening and giving off the appearance of a target or a ‘target’.

Later symptoms of Lyme disease include:

  • Severe headaches and neck stiffness
  • Additional rashes
  • Arthritis with joint pain and swelling
  • Facial or Bell’s palsy
  • Heart palpitations
  • Problems with short-term memory
  • Nerve pain
