CAN protests alleged marginalization of Christians in Kaduna — Nigeria — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna Chapter, has protested the composition of members of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), urging the Federal Government to consider religious and cultural diversity in the regional body.

CAN appealed to President Bola Tinubu to review the composition of the commission to reflect the true composition of religious and ethnic groups in the North West for effective coordination and successful implementation of policies and programs under the commission.

The President of CAN in Kaduna State, Pastor Caleb Ma’aji, made the call in Kaduna while receiving officials of the Northern Christian Youth Professionals on a courtesy visit for closer collaboration and understanding for future engagements.

Represented by the Secretary of the Association, Venerable Emmanuel Okunlola, CAN said Nigeria is a diverse country, with multicultural and multi-ethnic groups, the factors of which must be taken into consideration by the authorities, in the spirit of diversity and peaceful coexistence.

Ma’aji also reminded the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, of the need to urgently rebuild the Church as he had earlier promised in Kuriga Community of Chikun Local Government where the church was burnt down and properties destroyed.

The CAN President, however, appealed for patience and resilience in the face of hardships experienced by Nigerians under the present dispensation and called for trust in government for a better future and national survival.

He expressed the hope that “the reforms being implemented by the Federal Government would lead to economic revival and national prosperity, reminding all leaders that they are accountable to God, their creator.”

Earlier, the President of the Northern Young Christian Professionals (NCYP), Isaac Abrak, explained that the group is a socio-political group that aims to improve the socio-economic well-being of Christians in the North and all Nigerians.

Abrak said the group was among many other organizations that supported the emergence of President Tinubu due to his previous leadership willingness in improving the lives of the youth and poor people in the society.

He urged Nigerians “to give the president more time and cooperation so that his reform policies crystallize and improve the economic well-being of all Nigerians.”

He commended CAN for its stance on the NWDC review and the Kuriga bandits attack, adding that Nigerians should be treated equally regardless of religious, cultural and ethnic differences.
