Kansas City Florist Inspired After Random Act of Kindness

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Emily Worthington is a floral designer who owns KC Flower Co.

She shares dozens of her flower arrangements on her Instagram page, but a recent video she shared was a little different.

It was about a random act of kindness she witnessed last Saturday.

“A lady came to my booth and bought some flowers and after she finished paying, she gave them back and said, ‘Please give them to someone who might need them today.’”

Emily Worthington shares story on Instagram.

Worthington said she was impressed by a stranger’s kind gesture.

“And after she left, I turned to the salesman next to me, and she heard everything too, and we both fell to the floor — that’s so sweet,” Worthington said. “I was like, ‘How do I know who to give these flowers to?’ and she said, ‘You’ll know.'”

That’s what happened next that Worthington says she’ll always remember — a woman came to her tent at the end of the day asking for flowers for her sister-in-law.

“And I said, ‘OK,’ and she said, ‘Do you do flowers for funerals?’ And I just connected the dots,” Worthington said. “And we started talking and I found out that her sister-in-law unfortunately passed away from breast cancer. And I will never forget the feeling I had. , ‘She’s the one I waited all day to give her these flowers for.'”

It was a small act of kindness that was also personal.

“I know someone very close to me who has metastatic breast cancer and I know how difficult it is and how it affects people,” she said.

That person is your brother-in-law’s sister, Brooke.

On October 19, Worthington will host a pop-up at Madewell at Towne Center Plaza from 1 to 5 p.m.

A portion of sales will benefit Brooke Strong, Brooke’s fund.

It shows how flowers are connecting these strangers and bringing a little light.

“I’m sure when she bought the flowers, she didn’t realize the impact she was making on this woman’s day,” Worthington said. “And to the woman who received the flowers, I haven’t stopped thinking about her because I can’t imagine that kind of loss.”

Worthington said he has never experienced this type of emotion before.

“It’s just a simple act of kindness as far as it goes,” Worthington said. “I never imagined those flowers would go to who they went to.”

Worthington says he hopes to find the woman who gifted the flowers. She says the response she received was incredible.

“They sent me messages; I got a message from someone who said, ‘Thank you so much for sharing this,’ from a breast cancer survivor,” she said. “My hope with all of this is to inspire everyone to pay it forward. I have no doubt this has already inspired someone to do so. I hope everyone finds a way to pay it forward today.”
