Liverpool star responds as Jurgen Klopp’s ‘shocked’ ex-player criticizes new job

A Liverpool star has spoken out about Jurgen Klopp’s new role, while another of his former players is “shocked” by the manager’s “shit” decision.

The 57-year-old man left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 campaign after spending nine years as manager of the Premier League giants.

Klopp announced at the end of January that he would leave the club at the end of the campaign, as he was out of steam and needed a sabbatical.

Since leaving Liverpool, Klopp has been linked to several clubs and international teams but he also hinted that he will not be able to return to management and retire.

However, Klopp’s return to football was announced earlier this week, as he will become Red Bull’s ‘global head of football’ and will start in January 2025.

It is reported that Klopp’s deal includes an “exit option” that he can use if he chooses to pursue a managerial role.

Klopp has landed a job at Red Bull despite previously having an extended spell at Borussia Dortmund, who compete in the Bundesliga against RB Leipzig.

Explaining your decision to accept this job, Klopp said he “wants to see what is useful for football”.

“A few months ago I said that I no longer see myself on the sidelines and that is still the case, but I still love football and I still love working and Red Bull gives me the perfect platform for that,” Klopp said in a video. on Instagram.

“I want to share my experience that I have accumulated over the years and we all know that there are many more successful managers out there.

“In my career I fought for promotion, I fought against relegation, I fought for titles and I fought for trophies.

“Sometimes we fail, sometimes we succeed and dealing with it is not easy, but it is possible.

“So I want to learn again because when you are at work and have to play every three days you hardly have time for that.

“Now I have time and opportunity and I want to see, feel and discover what is useful for football. Therefore, develop football a little too.”

Kevin Grosskreutz – who played under Klopp at Dortmund – admitted that Klopp’s decision “hasn’t been made yet” as “it’s shit”.

“I woke up, I had 30 messages on my cell phone and I thought: what happened? I thought I was dreaming, so I hoped it was fake news. Two hours later it was official. It was very shocking and sad. Somehow this has not yet been realized,” Grosskreutz said.

“I don’t think anyone expected this. It’s very, very strange and I still can’t understand it. It’s like a shock!

“Still, he is my friend and I owe him a lot. And I will always be grateful to him. As a football fan, I think it’s shit, to be honest!

“But as a friend, you have to accept the decisions that are being made. When we meet, I will still tell him in person that I think it’s shit for him to do something like that!

Liverpool striker Diogo Jota also gave his reaction. He said: “Klopp? He’s a person I have a lot of affection for, we have to respect his decision. I wish you good luck in this new stage.”
