Second suspect arrested in connection with Speed Street shooting

A second Vicksburg man is in custody in connection with the Oct. 1 shooting on Speed Street that injured one person.

Stuart Thomas, 24, was taken into custody at the Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) on Friday, the VPD said in a statement.

Thomas was wanted on a warrant for tampering with physical evidence in connection with the shooting that occurred near the intersection of Speed and Drummond streets. The incident was the second shooting in three days in the 1100 block of Speed Street and both incidents were suspected of targeting a home at 1107 Speed Street.

Another suspect, 29-year-old Nicholas Clay, was taken into custody on October 3 in connection with the shooting. Both suspects turned themselves in to VPD.

Clay was charged with aggravated assault and remanded to the Warren County Grand Jury on $50,000 bail by Vicksburg Municipal Court Judge Penny Lawson.

Thomas appeared before Lawson on Friday, where he was given a $30,000 bond and bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
