Expert says something about Riccardo Calafiori at Arsenal has really shocked him so far

Riccardo Calafiori has had a brilliant start to life at Arsenal.

The Italian has already secured his place as a starter in Mikel Arteta’s team and has been producing in big moments.

His incredible goal against Manchester City has already made him a fan favorite, while he has been solid in almost every game he has played.

It’s been really difficult to find a flaw in Calafiori’s game so far, but speaking on TalkSPORT, Adrian Clarke stated that he has been surprised by one aspect of Calafiori’s game so far.

In fact, the expert says he really didn’t expect Calafiori to be as offensive as he has proven to be so far.

Adrian Clarke shocked by Riccardo Calafiori attack

The commentator shared his verdict on Calafiori’s start to life at Arsenal.

Clarke says he’s been really impressed with Calafiori’s performances so far, but hasn’t been shocked by how far the Italian has come.

“Overall, I was very impressed. I think he is much more offensive than I imagined, considering he is a defender. You know, he’s happy to be in midfield, moving forward,” Clarke said.

“He is helping Martinelli for sure. Having a left foot behind him, which feeds passes inside a little quicker, I think, makes a lot of difference.

“Of all our defenders, no one makes more passes into the final third than Calafiori.

“I think he’s second only to Partey for completed passes into the opposition half, so he’s picking up the ball a lot, giving it to the attackers, and I think that’s a big thing.

“For me, I think it will be difficult for him to change left-back because he is left-footed.”

Ian Wright also shocked by Riccardo Calafiori

Clarke says he’s been shocked by Calafiori’s performances so far, and he’s not the only one.

In fact, Ian Wright was also surprised by Calafiori.

The commentator says he had no idea Calafiori was so good and also thinks people inside Arsenal will be shocked by the defender.

“Calafiori, you know, when Zinchenko arrived we saw a big change in the progression of the ball and the way Mikel wanted to play. Now, it has gone up to another level with Calafiori. I didn’t know he had so much in his arsenal,” Wright said.

“For someone who has just arrived, you hear people say they need to adapt to the team and with their teammates, he is plug and play, he understands instantly.

“We’re seeing this, we didn’t think we were going to get so many players, there’s no way.”

Calafiori has been brilliant for Arsenal so far and if he can maintain this level of form then that £40m fee will look like an absolute bargain.
