Bruno Fernandes was ‘shocked’ by Manchester United’s summer transfer after great pre-season

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was “shocked” by a deal the club made during the summer transfer window.

Bruno Fernandes signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United in the summer after INEOS took charge at Old Trafford.

There were rumors that the club captain might leave but wanted to stay as long as the new leadership wanted him to be involved.

He would also clearly like to be aligned with their vision for the coming years, with the 30-year-old eager to win major trophies at the height of his career.

United were active in the summer transfer window with five major first-team signings, including Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte, worth over £200 million and many sales were also made.

One of those deals included the departure of talented midfielder Maxi Oyedele, who left to join Polish side Legia Warsaw.

It was a move that included a sell-on clause, a buy-back clause and a corresponding rights clause. This means the Reds could bring the 19-year-old back to the club.

However, it was a somewhat surprising move considering the Academy graduate’s talent level. He impressed in the last pre-season and Fernandes did not agree with his departure.

According to Legia Warsaw coach Gonçalo Feio, Fernandes told him he was shocked that the club had let Oyedele leave.

“The quality of the ball, the personality, the character to keep the ball, the choices, when to lead, playing with one touch,” said Feio about Oyedele according to The Mirror.

“It is no coincidence that Bruno Fernandes, when we spoke to him, said he was shocked that United released him, because he did very well in pre-season with Manchester.

“The level at which you play is also related to the number of duels won in the central zone. His physical maturity, motor skills and ability to use his body are at a high level.

“Although I know that the fans and probably you journalists like what he does with the ball more, Maxi gives us a very physical presence in midfield.”
